The Seven Directions of the World - 1974, Lodz. By the camera- Jerzy Wojciech Fiwek, director (in glasses) and Jerzy Gajzler, cameraman: on the chair - Janusz Czecz, photography director. Educational Film Studio in Lodz has been present on the film market for over half a century. The Studio as such was established on December 29 in 1949 in order to continue the educational film activity started in 1946 at the Cracow Film Institute and the Marta and Karol Marczak Science Film Studio in Zyrardow. In 1994 its name was changed to The Studio of Educational Films and Programmes. The Studio is situated on an area of 0,8 hectares in the centre of Lodz close to the junction of Kilinski and Przybyszewski Streets, at the same address for 55 years.
The creative output of the Studio (5,000 films, about 70% of which are available in the Archives) encompasses various areas of subjects. The most significant ones are films on nature, art, films for children and social documentaries.

The Bell - 1980 (dir. Andrzej Papuzinski), Przemysl, the Felczynski family bell foundry. The two 'aliens' in asbestos suits are cameramen - Janusz Polom (squatting) and Andrzej Jeziorek (standing). Our greatest successes have been in the field of the nature and biological film (the pioneers: Karol Marczak and Włodzimierz Puchalski, then Jozef Arkusz, Boleslaw Baczynski, Aleksandra Jaskólska, Stanislaw Kokesz and Remigiusz Ronikier, Ryszard Wyrzykowski - "Mr Rysio"). At the moment nature films and programmes are being made by Zbigniew Bączyński, Jerzy Bezkowski, Barbara Bartman-Czecz, Roman Debski.

Most nature films are made in co-operation with the "Film-Nature-Culture" Association. Its President is at the moment Ms Janina Krzemińska-Freda, the managing director of the Botanical Garden in Lodz; most editorial work is performed by Ms Wanda Jablonska, who used to be an employee of the Studio from 1972 to 1989. Also in the past most films on art, starting with fine arts through architecture to folklore and cultural traditions, were made in our Studio. Their creators were eminent directors, like Jaroslaw Brzozowski, Zbigniew Bochenek, Grzegorz Dubowski, Konstanty Gordon, Stanislaw Grabowski, Bohdan Moscicki, Kazimierz Mucha, Andrzej Papuzinski, Andrzej Rozycki, Witold Zukowski. At present Andrzej B. Czulda continues the subject. A lot of young film makers who had begun co-operating with the Studio, were later successful in feature films, among others: in the 50-s: Janusz Nasfeter, Jerzy Wojciech Has; in the 60-s: Krzysztof Zanussi, Grzegorz Krolikiewicz; in the 70-s: Piotr Andrejew, Andrzej Baranski, Marek Koterski, Juliusz Machulski, Piotr Szulkin, Leszek Wosiewicz; in the 80-s: Jan Jakub Kolski, Lukasz Wylezalek. Andrzej Baranski still continues his co-operation with the Studio. The list would not be complete without such famous film music composers as Krzysztof Komeda or Krzysztof Penderecki. Moreover, a great number of world renowned photography directors and cameramen have been co-operating with our Studio: Wit Dabal, Jolanta Dylewska, Pawel Edelman, Andrzej Jeziorek, Ryszard Lenczewski, Krzysztof Ptak, Zbigniew Rybczynski, Piotr Sobocinski, Jerzy Zielinski.
